Why Do Swimmers Shave?

Humans Are Not Dolphins

There are a few reasons for this. The main one being drag. Swimmers want to minimize as much friction in the water as possible so that they can swim faster. Think of a dolphin or a fish. They are streamlined and have no hair. Animals that have hair or feathers typically have a coating of oil to smooth out the rough surface. Unfortunately, humans have body hair, and if you are a swimmer and want to maximize speed and minimize drag then you are going to have to find some way to remove all that unnecessary hair.

Friends Have Eachothers Backs

If you are not a swimmer then the idea of someone else shaving your body might sound odd or even uncomfortable. In swimming, especially professional swimming this is commonplace for males and females. The reason for this is simple, most parts of the body are actually kind of difficult to shave on your own. It’s much easier for someone else to pay attention to detail while shaving you. This is especially true for your back or neck.

Try Getting Friendly

Try having someone else shave you, or visa-versa. It’s only weird if you make it. Think outside the box.

So grab a razor and friend and get smooth together.
